Purpose: Here we report a case of a postoperative cheek cyst arising from the maxillary sinus with orbital involvement.
Case summary: A 56-year-old male presented to our clinic with right periorbital edema and visual impairment. Upon examination, he had a visual field defect and a best corrected visual acuity of 0.6 in the right eye. The patient was diagnosed with a postoperative cheek cyst originating from the maxillary sinus. The cyst developed because of radical maxillary sinus surgery.
Computed tomography showed a mass originating from the maxillary sinus. After endoscopic sinus surgery, the best corrected visual acuity of the right eye improved to 1.0 and the periorbital edema was reduced.
Conclusion: In patients with orbital involvement of a maxillary sinus cyst, radiographic examination and surgical history of the postoperative cheek cyst can be diagnostic.
